What is Internet of Things (loT)-Make smart world

Internet of Things

The internet of things is a platform that allows common devices to be linked to the internet and communicate, work together, and share information. The Internet of Things, or loT, is going to transform the way we live. Smart cars, smart homes, smart cities, everything around us can be turned into a smart device with the help of Internet of Things. IoT sure does bring the ‘cool’ factor to technology. While lot is poised to bring the next big boom in the job market, lack of skill is facing the biggest barrier for companies looking to adopt this technology.

The expansion of Internet connectivity into tangible objects and everyday objects is known as the “Internet of things.”Internet of Things” (IoT) is a network of devices with ability to sense, gather, compile, and transmit data across the internet without assistance from people. That means embedded with electronics, Internet connectivity, and other forms of hardware, these devices can communicate and interact with each other over the Internet and be remotely monitored and controlled as well.

History of Internet of Things(IoT)

  • 1970: A proposal was made for the concept of connected devices.
  • In 1990, John Romkey invented a toaster that could be controlled online.
  • Siemens unveiled the first cellular module designed for machine-to-machine (M2M) technology in 1995.
  • 1999: Kevin Ashton coined the phrase “Internet of Things” while he was employed at P&G, and it quickly gained traction.
  • 2004: The phrase appeared in a number of well-known newspapers, including Scientific American, the Boston Globe, and the Guardian.
  • 2005 saw the release of the first report on this subject by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) of the UN.

Evolution of Internet of Things (loT)

Now that we have understood what exactly loT is, it will be interesting to have a look at the evolution of internet.
Pre-Internet: In the pre-internet era, most of the human-to-human communication was through fixed and mobile telephony.
Sunrise of Internet: The world abruptly changed with the advent of the Internet. With just a click of a button, we could be on different continents and still share crucial information.
Internet of People: After the invention of blogging social media began to explode in popularity. Sites like MySpace and Linkedin gained prominence in the early 2000s. When YouTube launched in 2005, it gave individuals a whole new platform for sharing and communication over long distances.

Birth of loT

Almost all of the material that is currently accessible on the Internet was once created and captured by people. People are not very good at gathering data about things in the real world because they are limited in their attention, time, and skills. However, if we had computers that were always aware of everything, we could track and count everything and drastically cut down on waste, loss, and expense. This is how the “Internet of Things” came to be.

IoT Definition

Through the interconnection of (physical and virtual) objects based on current and developing interoperable information and communication technologies (ICT), Advanced services are made possible by the Internet of Things (IoT), which can be thought of as a global infrastructure for the information society.
Things are objects of the physical world (physical things) or of the information world (virtual world) which are capable of being identified and integrated into communication networks.

Physical objects can be sensed, activated, and connected. They exist in the physical world. The surrounding environment, industrial robots, objects, and electrical equipment are a few examples of physical things.
In the world of information, there are things that are virtual and can be processed, accessed, and stored. Applications and multimedia content are two examples of virtual objects. Information about things is associated with them and can be both static and dynamic.

Advantages of IoT

Internet of things

Communication : IoT facilitates what is popularly referred to as Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication—that is, communication between devices. This allows the physical devices to maintain connectivity, resulting in complete transparency with reduced inefficiencies and improved quality.

Access information : we can easily access any information sitting any part of the globe in real time. People can now carry out their work with great convenience, even if they are not physically present.

Automation and Control : Automation is the process of decreasing human intervention or involvement thereby increasing the b machine intelligence to perform every tasks by itself. There is a great deal of automation and control in its operations as a result of physical objects being connected and S controlled digitally and centrally via wireless infrastructure. Without human intervention, the machines are able to communicate with each other to deliver faster and timely output.

Efficient and Saves Time :The intermachine relationship Improved efficiency from interaction allows for quick and accurate results. This saves a significant amount of time. It allows people to work on other creative projects rather than doing the same chores repeatedly every day.

Better Management and Health Care :The patient monitoring can be done on a real-time basis without a doctor’s visit. It enables them to make decisions as well as evidence-based offer treatment.

Better Management and Health Care :The patient monitoring can be done on a real-time basis without a doctor’s visit. It enables them to make decisions as well as evidence-based offer treatment.

Efficient usage of electricity :Because the devices are directly connected and can communicate with a controller device, like a mobile phone, you can use electricity more efficiently. So you don’t have to worry about unnecessary use of electricity and appliances.

Security :With mobile phones, you can operate your home. It provides personal protection.

Disadvantages of IOT

Compatibility : There isn’t currently a global standard for the equipment used for tagging and monitoring compatibility.

Privacy :The Internet of Things system offers significant personal data in the greatest amount of detail even in the absence of user participation.

Security :Since IoT systems are networked and connected, they can communicate with each other. The system offers little control which lead the various kinds of network attacks like hackers could break to the network and steal the information. So, data encryption is very much necessary for maintaining the privacy of the data shared over the internet.

Unemployment : With every task being automated will lead to a lower need of manpower and eventually loss of jobs. Employment will be directly impacted by this.
